Mini Series (#1-3)Medium: Oil Pastel
Size:5x7 Guiding Question: How does the use of and vibrancy of color can change how we view the human form? This piece aims to identify and isolate the intricacies and often hidden details behind the undertones in skin. Using pastels allowed me to work smaller and more directly. I enjoyed the bold use of more primary colors in this medium, and feel I could apply bolder colors into my mixing of oils. In this practice, I focused on observation along with intuition, and followed the instructions my eyes uncovered within the piece. By slowly breaking the form from natural colors into further shades, I fully immersed myself into the intricacies of color within the person. I struggled for a while to find fuller colors, and initially lacked confidence to portray them. I am beginning to understand how artists utilize color, how it can create mood, energy, and even liveliness. This series has taught me to go further than traditional realistic representations, and inspires me to question further how use of expressive color can impact my art. |
